Description:Hanley Deep Pit lay in the area just outside the town of Hanley, at a place called Far Green. When sunk it was the deepest shaft in the area.
The colliery was owned by Earl Granville and supplied his blast furnaces at Shelton Bar with coal. It opened in 1854 and closed in 1962.
During the 1930s, its heyday, it employed 1552 men both underground and on the surface. In the 1970s the land was reclaimed and is now Hanley Forest Park.
