Description:The camera is looking along the railway line from Stoke to Newcastle just after it emerges from the tunnel at Albert Street. The photograph was taken from the top of either John Street or Wharf Street. looking north west. King Street bridge is in the centre with The Borough Arms Hotel just to the left. The tower beyond belongs to St George's Church. The cutting has been filled in and is now part of Seagrave Street and a car park. To the right are the properties on Sidmouth Avenue.
The line was part of the Stoke to Market Drayton branch, completed in 1870, although trains ran to Newcastle from 1852. Passenger trains to Newcastle ceased in 1964.
