Description:Trams such as these were used before the advent of electricity to power efficient motors for tramcars. Usually, just one horse would be used, but this tram travelling between Hanley and Burslem had to negotiate a steep hill between Vale Place and Cobridge. The horse drawn tram ran on iron rails the same as electric trams.
