Remembering the White Lion

Bernard remembers socialising in the White Lion during the late 1940s:

"In the days of '47, '48, there was a music room, quite a good pianist who played for the love of it - Saturday nights only - but Freddie Jones would have his Spanish guitar and he'd sing Alouette in French. It was uproarious and people loved him.

"The other bit I never went in - you just got a glimpse as you went through to the music.

"Many Saturday nights we went there. There's something been knocked down now, and turned into a car park - but there weren't many cars around then."
