Description:This is the back of T C Wild's St Mary's Works on Uttoxeter Road. This photograph was taken looking north from Normacot Road, from a point now underneath the A50. The house on the right hand edge still stands on the corner of Lower Spring Road and Bell Avenue. The front of the works on Uttoxeter Road, built in the 1860s and 1880s, is grade II listed, the buildings in the photograph date from 1904 and are not included in the listing.
T C Wild occupied these works from 1905, and used them largely just for decorating ware produced in their other works. The business became part of Royal Doulton in the 1970s. The works closed in 1998.
The terraced house facing the camera just beyond the end of the St Mary's Works is on Calverley Street (formerly Lovatt Street), and is part of the Walkers Nonsuch Toffee factory.
