Description:Taken from close to the Stoke Road (A5006) bridge, the camera is looking west along the Caldon Canal. In the distance is one of the now demolished gas holders of the Etruria Gas Works on Etruscan Street. Pynest Street is off to the right of the photograph.

On the left is one of W Podmore & Sons mills, The Caledonian Works. This was the Head Office of the company that had six other mills spread over Staffordshire. The company were millers and manufacturers of colours, frits, glazes, oxides and clays for the pottery and glass industry. In 1983 Podmore & Sons became part of Potterycrafts along with other local companies such as Wengers. Parts of the Caledonian Mill buildings still stand on Caledonia Road.
