Description:This photograph was taken looking north along Victoria Street from the Shelton New Road junction. The terrace of houses on the left date from the last decade of the 19th century, those further down and on the right hand side were later but built before 1920.
Halfway down, beyond the lorry is Clarence Street (now Clare Street), with the corner grocer's shop with a Bird's Eye advert over the door. Next to the lorry, is York Street (now Hadrian Grove and Langley Street) going off to the left. the lorry appears to be delivering coal by the sack load. The corner shop on the right, Evans, is now a house as is the hair stylist's and then chemist's opposite. This was at one time a Joules Brewery Off Licence. The hedge and shrubs on the right mark the line of the tunnel which carried the Stoke to Newcastle and Market Drayton railway line under Victoria Street.
