Date:November 1963

Description:This was the view north east from the top of Hartshill Bank (at the bottom of Vicarage Road). The lower land in the foreground is the Fowlea Brook valley with the main railway line running across. Immediately behind are the gas holders of Etruria gas works and to the right the Etruria Works of Twyford's Ltd. on Garner Street.

On the extreme right is the square tower of St Mark's Church, Shelton. On the extreme left is one of the spoil tips of Shelton and Racecourse Collieries. The spoil tips in Hanley and Sneyd are behind the gas holder. All of the tips have been much reduced and landscaped since this photograph was taken.
