Description:The photograph shows the line of the mineral railway through Cobridge just after it had crossed Waterloo Road. It ran between rows of houses. Those on the left faced onto Portland Street and on the right is the end of Bowness Street. Portland Street is still there, but Bowness Street (formerly called Garden Street or Garden Row) has been shortened. Although the track has been taken up, the route of the mineral line is a green walkway, starting at Stansgate Walk on Waterloo Road. The single track mineral line connected Hanley Deep Pit with the coking ovens in Shelton Iron and Steel Works.
