Description:Wood & Sons operated the Stanley Pottery in Newport Lane, Middleport. It was bought in 1931 and was made up of two works: Stanley and Crown Potteries which were almost completely rebuilt in 1945 into the Stanley Pottery at the northern end of Newport Lane. At this new works, tunnel biscuit and glost ovens replace bottle kilns. Stanley Pottery specialised in the production of hotel ware. The company closed in 2005 and the works has been demolished.

Maddock Street and Morton Street go off to the right. Most of the buildings in the photograph have been demolished. The two corner shops were "grocers and provisions dealers".
