Description:Longport Station was opened by the North Staffordshire Railway in 1848 but was named Burslem station. It became Longport in 1873 when Burslem station on the Loop Line opened. This is the view north from the level crossing at the southern end of the platforms. After the death of two youths hit by a train during bad weather in the 19th century, it was decided that a bridge should be built to carry Station Street under the lines. However, the level crossing also remained in use and today Station Street ends at the station. A footbridge crosses the lines.

Longport Station is preceded by a level crossing beyond which is the station yard, including a goods shed and sidings on the farside which handled the heavy coal traffic on the Pinnox Branch which leaves at Longport Junction. The station is still in use with services between Crewe and Derby.
