Description:The view east along Connaught Street (the name changed from Albert Street in the 1950s) from Harewood Street. Tunstall High Street is at the far end. Princess Street goes off to the right, just in front of the car (a Singer Gazelle). The entrance to H & R Johnson's ceramic tiles works is beyond the wagon on the right. The taller building on the left, just beyond the terrace houses is the Methodist New Connexion School Room. This backed onto the New Connexion Chapel which was in the adjoining Victoria Terrace (now Lascelles Street).
The first building on the left, on the corner, was at one time, the Cross Keys beer house (publican, George Yarwood).
With the exception of those on the left at the bottom, on the corner of High Street, all the buildings in the photograph have been demolished.
