Description:The view north along Goldenhill High Street from the corner of Colclough Lane. The large building on the left was the Globe Inn, now a veterinary surgery, behind is the spire of St John's Church, and the notice board by the seats on the extreme left marked the entrance to the St Joseph's Catholic Church. Road widening in the 1960s lead to the demolition of the shops on the left and their replacement with houses.
On the right hand side, the changes have been similarly dramatic with all the buildings visible demolished. This side of the road now has houses and a community hall. There were two more public houses on the right hand side: the Jolly Colliers (sign beyond the lamppost) and the Duke of Wellington (sign in the centre of the photograph). Several side streets came in from the right, Temperance Place, School Street, Chapel Street and Victoria Street, all now disappeared.
