Description:This is a view in a northerly direction along the High Street in Goldenhill. The photograph was taken close to St John's Church at the corner of Elgood Lane (previously Church Lane). Road widening in the late 1960s lead to widespread changes along High Street. On the right hand side, the shop buildings and Willis Street have been demolished and replaced by Heathfield Court sheltered housing. On the left, the Swan Inn and neighbouring shops up to Murray Street (formerly Wesley Street) have been cleared. Just before the street lamp post was the entrance to the Methodist Chapel. The flat topped building further along was once Johnson's Super Cinema, now a supermarket.
