Description:The houses on the left are on the southern side of Foundry Square. The photograph is taken from Ball Lane looking south west and behind is the higher ground of Norton le Moors. The iron foundry in Norton Green was started in 1815 using locally mined coal and iron ore. The foundry was served by a branch off the Caldon Canal which came into what is now Frobisher Street, behind Foundry Square. The foundry ceased working in 1871. The houses to the right have been demolished and replaced with modern dwellings, the houses on the left are much as they were. The car in front of the houses on the left is probably a 1950s Dodge.
