Description:Looking north along the Trent & Mersey Canal at the City Road bridge. The wharf buildings (sometime the North Staffs Railway & Canal Company) on the left date from the 18th century. The photograph was taken from across the canal at the parking area of Hyde Park industrial estate. Immediately behind the bridge, are the buildings on the north side of what was then Church Street (now City Road, but much changed). The white fronted building is probably The Locomotive Inn and the adjoining building was at one time part of Ball & Robinson (builders and contractors). These and the wharf buildings were demolished with the building of the A500 (Queensway) and City Road widening.
