Date:August 1964

Description:The view north east towards Sideway from Primrose Hill in Hanford as it was in 1964. In the centre of the photograph is Stafford Colliery with its waste tip, once part of the Stafford Coal & Iron Company. The colliery mined both coal and iron ore and closed in 1969. The site is now the home of Stoke City F.C.'s Bet 365 /Britannia Stadium.

The city incinerator and the new commercial developments in Sideway are off to the left. In front of the colliery are the buildings of Sideway Farm. The Trent & Mersey Canal and the main railway line run across the photograph between the farm and the colliery.
