Date:June 1963

Description:The photograph is taken from the abandoned track bed of the old Michelin railway branch line south of Sideway Old Road. The branch line connected the tyre factory to the main line which it joined near Stafford Colliery. Stafford Colliery winding gear and engine houses can be clearly seen. The Colliery mined coal and ironstone before it was closed in 1969.
The site of Stafford Colliery is now the Bet 365/Brittannia Stadium, home of Stoke City FC. Sideway Old Road has disappeared with the development of the incinerator, A50 and warehouses in the Sideway area.
