Description:Photograph taken during the Coal Strike of 1926.

This photograph was probably taken from the East Vale /Meir Hay area of Longton. It’s the location of the much earlier Meir Hay Colliery. There were shallow coal workings and deposits that were still present at the time of the coal strike which caused great hardship to the Longton townsfolk.

Longton’s Parish Church – St James the Less in the distance and the tall chimney of Paragon China in Sutherland Rd. The Meir Hay area was also used by pottery firms to “dump” waste pottery shards & old moulds
