Glazed Earthenware H. 6.0 x W. 30.7 cm

Large earthenware plaque, thrown and turned by Michael Cardew, decorated by Henry Bergen at Winchcombe Pottery, Gloucestershire, England.

Slip decorated using a paper stencil, lead glazed, base unglazed. Impressed legend around the rim, "WHY LET THE STRVKEN DEERD GO WEEPE. THE HART VNGALLED PLAY. FOR SOME MUST WATCH WHILE SOME MUST SLEEPE. SO RVNNES THE WORLD AWAY".
