Description:Pottery factory interior showing a man hand-engraving a design on a flat copper plate. The copper plate would then be inked and used to make a paper transfer of the design. The design would then be applied to the surface of ware from the transfer. This engraving appears to be intended as a plate decoration. Taken at Minton's Ltd., London Road, Stoke-on-Trent.

This was a highly skilled job. The engraver's name is Mr. F. Ridgway. He was the head engraver and had worked at the company for 40 years. He succeeded his father who had also been the head engraver and had worked at the company for 59 years.

Taken from the Gladstone Pottery Museum Photographic Collection.
