Description:Herbert Lewis was born in 1894 in Silverdale, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire. He joined the army in 1916. He served in France, Gibraltar, Constantinople and India. He married on 16th February 1929. He and his wife Ethel had seven children and eleven grandchildren. Herbert died 27th June 1976, aged 82 years. He was awarded British War Medal 1914-1918 and The Victory Medal 1914-1918.
