Description:Factory interior with a pottery worker known as a placer filling a saggar. Photographed by William Blake.
This image appears elsewhere in the collection and was used for a presentation by Blake entitled “Staffordshire Pottery.”
A small folder containing approximately sixty reader cards was found in the same box as the presentation slides. The cards contain information about the images. The card that appears to correspond to this image reads;
"Placing. Before firing ware is place in rough earthenware containers called saggars, filled in with powdered flint. A cover is added and made air tight with clay."
