Date:April 1968

Description:This is the view looking south towards Hem Heath from just off Grove Road in Fenton. Kemball, Pender and Bourne were pits operated by The Stafford Collieries and Iron Works between Sideway and Mount Pleasant. The photograph shows Kemball pit. It operated as a training pit for "Bevan Boys" in the 1940s and later, after closure in 1963, as a surface training centre. Training finished in 1989. The land was cleared as part of the A50 road development and the colliery site is now a hotel.
