Description:This is a view from Broad Street along the lane to Clough Street. Halfway down was Clementson's Phoenix Mill. Until demolished in the 1930s, the car park on the left was a part of the Phoenix earthenware works, also operated by Clementson's. Clementson Brothers Mill ground flint, silica, feldspar, etc., made frits, and manufactured glazes and bodies. The mill buildings date from the 1920s although Clementson's had been operating on this site since the mid 1900s. Soon after the photograph was taken, the mill was demolished and the site became Clementson's Mill car park. Part of the frontage on Clough Street still stands.
