Date:August 1964

Description:These two factories were just north of the junction with Clayton Lane. Mother's Pride was part of Rank Hovis MacDougal and later, from 1975, part of Premier foods and in the 1970s and 80s was the best selling white bread in the United Kingdom. Much of the Midlands was supplied from this factory. The site was shared with an electrical factory, Mazda lamps. This bakery is just a little way from the Trent Vale bakery on Newcastle Road.

The Mazda factory was just beyond the bakery and was part of AEI (Associated Electrical Industries). It opened around 1958 making a range of domestic light bulbs, although an electrical accessories factory was here before. Production ceased in 1964. The buildings date from the late 1940s to early 1950s. The site has been cleared and is now a mixture of offices and leisure industries.
