Description:This photograph was taken from the bridge at the bottom of Pidduck Street in Middleport, looking south along the Trent & Mersey Canal. The large buildings in the centre and right are rolling mills at Shelton Steel Works. On the left hand edge is the 19th Century calcining works in Milvale Street belonging to Goodwin's Mill Co. who ground flint, stone, whiting, and potters' materials.

Further along the canal, just round the curve, is A J Wilkinson, manufacturer of high quality table and hotel ware, Royal Staffordshire Pottery. The calcining mill still stands, but Wilkinson's pottery is now housing. Between the two is Middleport Park.
