Description:The Trinity Street/Etruria Road bridge over Hanley Station. The camera is looking along the line towards Shelton and Etruria from beneath the footbridge which connected the platforms. Hanley Station was built in a deep cutting underneath Trinity Street, which has now been filled in to make the car park of the old Grand Hotel which is off to the left of the photograph. This was the second Hanley Station, opened in 1873 and finally closed in 1966. The photograph was taken in May 1963, just 10 months before the station was closed to passengers. This second station was built at a cost of just over £1000, about a quarter of the cost of the larger and grander station at Burslem, opened at around the same time.
