Description:Looking north east over the Cobridge Brick & Marl Company's fireclay pit at Scotia Bank. The photograph was taken from the footpath at the southern end of the pit. On the right are the backs of houses on Sherwin Road, Stanfield.

Most British fireclays occurs within coal seams and they are either extracted by open cast methods or mined simultaneously with coal. This clay pit was flooded in one night when the pit struck the old coal workings of Scotia Colliery. The pit has been infilled and reclaimed and forms part of Scotia Park.
