Date:November 1963

Description:Packing crates at Sneyd pipe works. The works was to the west of the Potteries Loop Line, just north of the bridge over Hot Lane. Crate making was an important linked trade in the pottery industry right up to the 1970s, with straw used to pack the pottery or earthenware in the crate. In the photograph the traditional wooden crates have been replaced with wire mesh but there appears to be lots of straw about.

There are stacks of pipes awaiting packing just in front of the two chimneys. The site today is mixed industry and commerce.
