Date:March 1964

Description:The west end of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Queen's Avenue taken from the alleyway off King William Street. The local parish priest, Father P Ryan, was the driving force behind the planning and building of the church which was opened in June 1930. The site was originally a pottery waste (shraff) tip and so the church is built on a raft foundation to minimise the danger of subsidence damage. Not visible in the photograph, the building is noted for its copper domed roofs designed by Sydney Brocklesby.

Built in the Romanesque Basilica style, it is a Grade II listed building.
