Date:April 1964

Description:The Duke of Wellington public house stood on the corner of High Street and Garbett Street in Goldenhill. At the time of this photograph the licencees were George and Alice Bradbury and the pub was known locally as 'Brad's'. The building has since been demolished and although there were plans to rebuild the pub, the site is now open space. Double Diamond, brewed by Ind Coope, was one of the best selling beers in the UK in the 1960s and 70s. Next door are two shops: a branch of Reliable Stores and a newsagents & tobacconist (Scott's). Scott's later became Graham & Simpson's newsagents.
