Description:Looking east from Norton Lane with the higher ground of Baddeley Green, Stanley and Bagnall in the distance. Leek New Road (A53) runs through the centre of the photograph.

In the foreground is Buller's (Allied Insulators) work with an outpost of three bottle kilns. The Caldon Canal runs alongside the works, but is hidden by the factory buildings. Just behind the bottle kilns and chimney is the factory's extensive shraff tip. Buller's was one of the first companies to explore the markets created by electrical power, and by 1868 they were supplying porcelain insulators worlwide. Much of this work was involved with telegraph Insulators, but Bullers were also made insulators for the London's Metropolitan Underground Railway, London County Council Tramways, and for many other transport systems. The original works in Hanley soon became inadequate and a new factory was opened in Milton in 1920. Electrical porcelain was the main product. Various amalgamations lead to the company being renamed Allied Insulators in 1972. The new company was linked with Doultons and Wade Ceramics. The Milton factory was closed in 2001, the buildings have been demolished and replaced with housing.
