Description:A view from the Old Cemetery in the south eastern corner of St Peter's Church, Stoke-on-Trent. Church Street runs across the photograph between the graveyard and the Red Lion public house (on the left). The old Wharf Street ran north just beyond the Red Lion. In between the trees, the Trent Tavern is just visible. Much has been demolished with the widening of Church Street and the building of the A500 (Queensway). The Red Lion belonged to Showell's Brewery (in nearby Copeland Street), although until 1925 it was the property of the Rector of Stoke. It was demolished in the early 1970s during construction of the A500 (Queensway). At demolition, the front of the public house was taken away, brick by brick, and rebuilt at the Tramway Museum at Crich, Derbyshire, where it stands today.
