Description:Harrison & Sons manufactured a wide range of materials for the ceramics industry, mainly for decorating. Their Phoenix Works was at the south end of Garth Street (until the 1950s known Bath Street) in Hanley, but now demolished, although some of the terraced houses opposite survive. The offices are in the centre of the photograph with the main works were behind. The camera is looking towards Hillcrest Street (formerly known as Hill Street).
The company was especially known for producing colours and in particular gold colours for on glaze decoration. Harrison's were also noted for producing Seger Cones, used to register the temperature inside kilns.
