Description:This imposing building on the corner of Percy Street and Tontine Street is the Free Trade Building. From 1924 it was the home to Webberley's (printers, stationers and booksellers). Previous occupants included the Liberal Club, Arthur Prall the wholesale ironmongers offices, a dancing school and Stoke Repertory Theatre. The doorway along Percy Street has "Free Trade Buildings" in coloured Minton tiles over the lintel.
A typical 1960s pram is crossing Percy Street. Popular makes included Silver Cross, Royale and Swallow.
Hanley's old meat market (The Tontine) is on the left edge of the photograph. A Stonier's bus is waiting in Percy Street.
