Date:October 1963

Description:Broom Street runs east off Old Town Road in Hanley. On the corner is Safin House, occupied in 1963 by S Finney & Sons, Wholesale Warehousemen. H & E Smith's tile factory still stands, although no longer a tilery. The buildings beyond were Broom Street school, a secondary girls' school, now demolished.

A sight no longer seen is the coalman's lorry delivering coal to households in 1 cwt (50kg) sacks. The scales are just visible on the back of the lorry.
