Date:1961

Description:This narrow boat on the Caldon Canal near Etruria would have been used to transport coal. The canal system in the Potteries was once the main source of transport for large quantities of heavy goods.
By the 1960’s this transport had been overtaken first by rail, then by road. However, some narrow boats remained because of the close location of many potbanks to the canal.
