Description:The prosperous town of Longton is expanding outwards in this scene. Lightwood Road was one of the new suburbs being built in the early part of the twentieth century.
In the centre of the picture is the Dunrobin Hotel. Horse and carts deliver coal, possibly from the Florence colliery, a chimney of which can be seen in the background to the right of the hotel. Notice the telegraph poles with rows of insulators for the separate wires.
