Description:This photograph is of the junction of Town Road and Market Square. Sherwin’s music shop sold musical instruments and sheet music as well as records.
The building was built in 1849 in the classic Georgian style, and was home to Hanley’s fruit, vegetable and general market. This photograph was taken just prior to demolition. The site is now occupied by a shopping complex.
