Description:Personnel of Burslem Police force line up for an official group photograph at the end of the nineteenth century. The original police station was situated behind the old meat market on Wedgwood Place, where the Ceramica site now stands.
Notice the uniforms of the late Victorian era. After Queen Victoria’s death in 1901 the uniforms changed slightly to what we would recognise today. A blue shirt and tie, helmet and jacket replaced the cap and smock coat.
