Description:By the second half of the twentieth century conditions for miners had improved significantly and most coal faces were cut using machinery. This picture was taken at Hem Heath Colliery in Trentham which was one of the area's 'super pits'. The colliery closed in the 1990's and the site is now occupied by the Trentham Lakes business park.
