Description:This war memorial is situated in Albert Square, Fenton, outside the Town Hall. The monument was constructed between 1918 and 1924 to commemorate the First World War. It is a four sided obelisk made from Portland stone with Bronze and enamel plaques on all four sides of the base. The west side shows a figure of a soldier above a plaque which reads: '1914-1918 - 1938-1945'. There is also a festooned wreath above a plaque reading 'Honour'. The south side shows a wreath above a plaque reading: 'Sacrifice'. The north side shows a wreath above a plaque reading: 'Courage'. On the east side of the obelisk is the Fenton coat of arms carved in stone above a plaque reading: 'Erected by voluntary subscriptions in memory of the Fenton men who gave their lives in the Great War and whose names are recorded on a tablet in the Town Hall'. This monument was erected after the First World War, but only one of the plaques dates from that time.
