Date:April 1963

Description:This photograph was taken opposite Christ Church Fenton, looking north. Until the 1950s renaming of streets, this was Church Street. Nelson street is coming in on the left. With rebuilding, Nelson Street no longer meets Christchuirch. The mix of shops and houses on the left hand side date from the second half of the 19th Century. They were starting to be demolished in the mid sixties and had been replaced with flats and houses by the 1980s. This redevelopment cut off Nelson Street.
