This side of the Phoenix works is the edge of the Boundary or Melbourne China Works.
Thomas Forester built the Phoenix Works on the site of the old Church Street Works around 1879, later buying up adjoining works to make this large manufactory. King Street was formerly known as Church Street. Forester specialised in Victorian majolica and earthenware. Production ceased in 1959 and the works became a wholesale pottery warehouse. The site is being redeveloped for mixed retail, commercial and office enterprises. The site has two surviving bottle ovens: grade II listed buildings.
