Description:The camera is looking north along Town Road from the edge of Market Square. Today this is the entrance to the Potteries Shopping Centre. The shop on the left is Sherwin's Music Store which everything to do with music as well as radios and televisions. Farther down is the tower and spire of the Tabernacle Congregational Church which closed soon after this photograph was taken.

On the right hand side, the co-operative store had closed prior to demolition. The building next door, on the corner of Glass Street, was originally the offices of the Prudential Assurance Company and beyond the site of new shops and offices. On the extreme right hand side is the edge of Redman's Food Fair, once part of the Angel Hotel.
