Description:This was the view eastwards over the Michelin Tyre factory from the higher ground along Hunter's Way in Penkhull. The Michelin factory dominates the middle of the photograph. On the left of the site is the water tower, over 100 feet high and holding over 40,00 gallons and on the right, the cooling tower for the power station. The square building towards the middle is the ten storey tyre warehouse. Behind are the low buildings housing the production lines.

In the distance, just visible in the mist are the tower and A frame of Hem Heath Colliery. the housing in the foreground is in Boothen. Behind the factory, Campbell Road runs from left to right and beyond that is now the A500 (Queensway). The Michelin site has been cleared and is now largely occupied by warehouses and distribution centres.
