Description:Looking northwards up The Avenue from its junction with the A34, Newcastle Road. The Avenue joins Newcastle Road to Hartshill Road. The northern part was built by the early 1920s and extended south to Newcastle Road in the 1930s, providing a southeastern by-pass to Newcastle town centre. The houses in the photograph all date from the 1930s, the land to then was allotments.
