Description:This is Twyford's Etruria Works on Garner Street, built in 1912, extended and modernised in the 1950s. The factory was built as an addition to Twyford's Cliffe Vale works, less than 1 mile away. It occupied the site which used to be the winter quarters for Barnum & Baileys circus with sidings alongside the main railway line. Initially Twyford's used the circus buildings as warehouses, then built 16 bottle (biscuit and glost) ovens before radical modernisation in the 1950s. These are the buildings shown in the photograph, with tunnel kilns replacing the bottle ovens.

Dimly in the distance are the winding towers of Wolstanton Colliery. The A500 (Queensway) today runs just to the left of the photograph.
