Date:October 1964

Description:The cluster of buildings and ovens was an earthenware works just south of Leek New Road. The houses on the right faced onto Leek New Road and those on the left onto Purbeck Street (formerly George Street). Once cleared, this site was occupied by Bourne's Fireplaces.

Bert Bentley, the photographer, thought these buildings might once have been part of William Hulme's earthenware works, the Argyle Pottery, which extended further along Leek New Road. They are unnamed and just marked as earthenware manufactory.
